HABITAT FOR HUMANITY and  RICHMOND AREA THEATRE

 Whisper in the Hearth

"Whisper in the Hearth" was performed Spring of 2001 at the Richmond Area Arts Center to support the building of Habitat for Humanity houses in Madison County and to share the gospel of Jesus in a new, creative way:  using the Gospel of Thomas.  "Whisper" is a musical with songs by Rick Loader and Rusty Rechenbach, and script by Rusty Rechenbach.

Pond Church produced Dr. Rechenbach's play "Sabbath of the Soul" in honor of the Bicentennial of the church in 1990.  The cast had such a good time they Incorporated and started the Richmond Area Theatre.  "We're all a bunch of R.a.t.s, anyway!" remarked Bill Whittaker at the time.  And so the R.A.T. began.  In this picture, the first actual "R.A.T." production directed by Oberita Hager and staring many familiar community faces in "You Can't Take It With You."

Then came Thurber Carnival, Two by Two, The Crucible, Done to Death, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Annie, The Middle of Yesterday, The Diary of Anne Frank, Our Town, Stepping Out, Godspell, The Odd Couple, At the Kissing Gate,  Kaleidoscope, Yesterday's Tomorrow, Whisper in the Hearth, and now this month Steel Magnolias.

Habitat for Humanity Madison County began its board meetings in the Pond Church sanctuary thanks to Brian Kirby who took the group by the horns and got things going.  Pond members have been active in Habitat and our church built a house on Frances Street.  Roland Thomas has catered hundreds of meals for the workers, and our members look forward to getting involved in future buildings.

PIONEER CHRISTMAS IN KENTUCKY

For nine years we have shared a blessed relationship of Church and State by sharing the Christmas story as told by Eighteenth Century pioneers in Fort Boonesborough's  "Pioneer Christmas in Kentucky."  Please clink our link to "Pioneer Christmas."

REFUGEE MINISTRIES

 Dizadarevic Family Arrival

Several years ago we worked through Kentucky Refugee Ministries to bring from war torn Bosnia the Dizdarevic family who later sponsored their parents/ grandparents.  They have been a blessing to the Richmond community and great friends.  We are all very proud to know them and serve with them.

Members deliver meals for Home Meal Delivery.  Link on to "Dante's Inferno" our outreach project for youth ministries.  Our youth groups have traveled each summer to a mission trip:  the Arizona trip to a Native American Indian reservation is the photo at the top of this page.

It is also important to remember that from a Sunday School class at Pond Church began the county recycling awareness.  Nancy Long and Kathryn Bagby led that group awareness.
